MacKenzie and Heidi playing around. This isn't as sharp and focused as I'd like, but I couldn't make it work in my photo editor. Anyone who wants to give it a go and sharpen it up feel free, just let me know!

I see throughout your gallery that you really enjoy photographing cats. I think you are on the right track as I can see that your newer images are becoming more refined. Instead of just taking a photograph of your cat you are beginning to think about image composition and things like line and emotion. The best advice I've ever received is this: Most photographs taken are shot from the standing position. We are used to seeing the world in that perspective, a simple way to improve the unique quality of your photographs is to change this perspective. Crouch down, look around, make the image and then take it. You have something going with cats, but you should try to push the idea further with some conceptual work. The interaction between the two cats here stands out from your others.

Also, it is important to realize that you should not rely on your photo editor to make your images. Take the image full frame and only adjust levels and contrast if you are working digitally. Study how your camera works and how to focus in different situations. With your cats you have a short amount of time to photograph so try to figure out if you can prefocus your camera and then take the picture. This can be done on any manual focus digital camera. Learn to focus the image yourself, and then switch to autofocus once you have figured it out.

Hope that helps.

Thanks so much for the wonderful suggestions! I've definitely been working on composing my shots better - especially with the kittens although they don't always make it easy! I have a point and shoot although overall its got some good features. I haven't figured out how to fool around with the manual focus with what I have to choose from, but I plan on actually sucking it up and whipping out the manual to see where all of the buttons and choices are. =D

I see they get along :). I can't wait to meet M. I really like how you made them fill up the whole frame, but like the person said at the very top, you have to see the picture you want when you take it. You're getting better at making your shots look more and more like art. Good job :)
